Interesting Uses for Used Dryer Sheets

Did you know that there are other things you can do with a dryer sheet besides using it for your laundry? I thought I knew a lot of uses for used dryer sheets until I started doing a little online reading.  I found there are a host of great things you can do with a sheet even after it’s been used.
The fragrance a used sheet gives off won’t be as strong as a new sheet because it has already gone through the dryer but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have any fragrance at all. You can always use more than one sheet to create a stronger scent.

Reuse the dryer sheet in your dryer again. I've found that the same softener sheet can be used at least twice and still get the job done.

Place a few used dryer sheets under your car seat to improve the smell of your car.

When sewing by hand, run the needle and thread through a used dryer sheet to keep the thread from tangling.

Keep your sleeping bag smelling fresh by placing used dryer sheets into the sleeping bag each time you pack it away. This helps keep the sleeping bag from developing a musty odor.

Remove pet fur from furniture by wiping it with a used dryer sheet.

Wipe a used dryer sheet over your hair if your hair is full of static electricity. If you keep a used sheet in your purse you will not only help your purse stay fresh smelling, but you’ll also have it as an emergency hair static remover.

If your clothes or nylons have developed some static cling, wiping them down with a used dryer sheet will get rid of the “cling”. Eliminating static cling is one of the main reasons that people use dryer sheets in the first place.

Cut a few into 1” strips and tie them onto tree branches to repel deer.

Use dryer sheets to keep mice, skunks, and squirrels out of your basement, garage, boat, camper or stored car.

Wipe your car windshield and grill to remove bugs. Just put a few drops of water onto the dryer sheet and scrub all those dead bugs away.

Freshen musty books or magazines by placing a used dryer sheet in a ziplock bag with a used book or magazine for a couple of days.

Stretch used dryer sheets inside your heat/AC vents to keep dust out of your house. Replace them when they are dirty. My husband does this every heating and cooling season.

Place used dryer sheets in the bottom of your laundry hamper to reduce smells coming from the dirty laundry.

Put used dryer sheets into your stored luggage. Then, to make sure that your clean clothes don’t start smelling like your dirty clothes when you travel, put the dryer sheets into the laundry bag you use for your dirty clothes.

Keep used dryer sheets in your diaper bag to wrap around a dirty diaper to keep it from smelling until you can throw it away.

Put a used dryer sheet in with your seasonal clothes before storing them.  It will not only make them smell fresher, but will help keep mice away.

To loosen burned food from the bottom of a pan put a used dryer sheet in the pan and fill it with hot water.  Let it soak overnight. The softening chemicals in the dryer sheet help to loosen the burned food and the pan will be easy to clean.

Cover the drainage hole in a flower pot with a used dryer sheet to prevent the dirt from being washed out when you water your plant.
In the bathroom used sheets can be used to polish your chrome fixtures, clean soap scum off the shower door and clean around the rim of the toilet.

Use them around the house in tennis shoes, closets and dresser drawers to keep things smelling fresh.
