Cornbread Casserole

1 pound lean hamburger meat
1/2 chopped onion
1 (15 oz) can pinto beans
1 1/2 cups grated chedder cheese
1 (6 ounce package) corn bread mix

Brown hamburger meat and onions with desired seasonings.  Drain grease and spread meat in bottom of casserole dish.  Drain beans and spread on top of meat.  Cover beans with cheese.  Mix corn bread according to directions; spread over top.  Bake at 350° for 20 to 25 minutes until done.  Cut into squares.  Makes 6 to 8 servings.

I've also made this using kidney beans instead of pinto beans and shredded hash browns instead of corn bread.  My sister has made it using spicy pork sausage in place of the hamburger.
