Writing Your Blog Article

Once you've decided what to write about, you will sit down to write the actual article. There are several things to keep in mind while you write.

The Length of Your Blog Article

We like to keep our blog articles around 750 words. Sometimes they are a little shorter. Sometimes a little longer. But, we have a target of 750 words. It is a good length for our blog readers and it is a do-able goal for our blog.

Use Your Keyword in Your Blog Article

By now you've figured out that in order to make money from your blog, you have to have visitors. In order to get visitors to your blog, you need to get a decent rank in the search engines. In order to get a decent rank in the search engines, you have to make sure the search engines know what your blog article is about.

The first step in letting search engines know what your blog article is about is to include your keyword (the word you think people will search for) several times in your blog article.

How many times is "several"? Well, some experts claim that 5% is a good target. So, in a 750 word blog, you would mention your keyword 37 times. I don't really try to do the math. I simply write my blog article for the reader, keeping in mind that I want to make sure my keyword is in the blog article but not trying to count the times.

I just counted my text - and my keywords. I have written about 250 words and used my keyword (blog) 14 times. That is pretty close to the 5% target that experts claim you need.

It's important that you understand you cannot "trick" the search engines by doing what is called "keyword stuffing". Keyword stuffing is sticking the keyword anywhere and everywhere for the sake of search engines. Search engines will recognize this and your page will suffer.

Just write your blog article for the reader, keeping in mind that you need to include the keyword for the search engines.

A couple rules to follow:
  • Use the keyword in your blog article

  • Use your keyword in your blog title

  • Use your keyword in the first sentence or two

  • Use your keyword in the last sentence

Publish Your Blog Article

When you are happy with your blog article, publish it. Then, as the shampoo bottle says: "Rinse and repeat". Get ready to write your next blog article.

Check The Search Engines
In a few days, you'll wonder if the search engines have found your blog article.

How can you tell? Just query the search engine using your URL address. I would go to google.com and type the URL address of my blog article. If google finds my blog page, I know I've been indexed.

In Part 5 of Blogging For Cash, I’ll talk about research. Until then, enjoy life!
